Top 6 Things You Won’t Want to Forget on your RV Trip

They say experience can be the best teacher on an RV trip — but maybe our post can help you too. Don’t overlook these useful items on the packing list for your next Camper Van / RV trip!

Coins for Laundry and Showers

Several campgrounds with communal showers and/or bathrooms have coin-operated features. And there’s nothing worse than missing out on much-needed laundry detergent or shower tokens because you don’t have two dollars’ worth of quarters on your person.

1-ply Toilet Paper (“RV TP”)

Awkward topic here but it needs to be said: If you have an RV with a toilet you need to treat that plumbing like you would a septic-system home… which means 1-ply toilet paper. This option is available at most stores but remembering to make this choice could save you a crappy experience. (See what I did there?)

Also, bringing spare toilet paper is just a good idea in general.

A sharp knife, a spatula,… cutlery in general.

What does meal prep look like on your trip? It could be beneficial to think through the cooking/preparation process for the meals you plan to make and make a list of the basic kitchen tools that would be required. And OK, so we admit that we snuck in a handful of items here. I guess it’s just because we had trouble deciding which kitchen item we were most grateful to have not forgotten! (For me it was the coffee maker).

Portable plastic folding table

Not all campgrounds will have cute picnic tables available for your functional or lounging pleasure. Make sure to bring a portable table or two to better enjoy the outdoors when you camp. On our most recent RV trip we only packed ONE portable table but we often wished we had brought another. The table was at its most useful during the outdoor BBQs, when we played games in the evening, and when we needed to air-dry our swim suits!

Multi-tool

You won’t regret having brought a multi-tool…. period.

Here are just a couple times we were grateful we had this baby on hand:

  • When we needed a screwdriver to replace the batteries in the flashlight and put together the grill

  • Tweezers to get a splinter out

Indoor and Outdoor Mats

I was initially a little skeptical about bringing an “outdoor mat” on the trip. That said, a lot of the RV camping grounds are literally just flat, dirt parking areas. So when you are constantly entering and exiting the RV, it can get dirty pretty fast. The mats minimized our outdoor clean-up process and kept the inside of the RV cleaner too. They also added a stylish element to our home-on-wheels.

Some useful items that didn’t make the short list but you’ll want to remember to pack too:

Lawn chairs.

Flashlight.

Coffee Maker (plus filters).

Flip-flops / Slippers.

Trash bags.

Portable Grill.

Bug Spray.

Towels and Bathing Supplies.
